India is witnessing a huge spike in daily Covid-19 infections that the country registered 2,16,642 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The Covid-19 second wave in India turned grimmer as 1,153 deaths were also reported on the day. The death toll from the deadly infection stands at 174,335.
Meanwhile, active cases in the country crossed 1.5 million (15 lakh) on Thursday. Last week India supplanted Brazil as the 2nd worst-hit nation in terms of total Coronavirus cases, now it has the second-highest active cases too.
The worst-hit state in the country, Maharashtra reported 61,695 new Covid-19 cases and 349 deaths in the last 24 hours. As per the health ministry, active covid cases in the country stand at 15,63,588 while the recovered cases are 24,29,564.
The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (3,578,160), Kerala (1,189,175), Karnataka (1,094,912), Tamil Nadu (954,948), and Andhra Pradesh (937,049).
