Despite some resistance from Tim Seifert, who scored 52 runs, and captain Mitchell Santner, who contributed 43 runs, the rest of the batting lineup failed to build partnerships. The Indian bowlers maintained tight control and regularly picked up wickets, preventing the Kiwi team from gaining momentum.
Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling attack brilliantly by claiming four wickets and dismantling the middle order. Spinner Axar Patel also played a crucial role by taking three wickets and putting New Zealand under further pressure. Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy, and Abhishek Sharma chipped in with one wicket each to complete a comprehensive bowling performance.
With this victory, India not only secured the 2026 T20 World Cup but also achieved a historic milestone by successfully defending the title after winning the previous edition in 2024.
