A survey attributed to Durex and circulated via The Daily Star is going viral on social media platform X, revealing the average age at which people lose their virginity across different countries. The figures have sparked widespread curiosity, especially as India’s average stands relatively higher at 22.9 years.
As per the widely shared list, Malaysia ranks highest with an average age of 23, followed by India (22.9), Singapore (22.8), China (22.1), and Thailand (20.5). Other Asian regions such as Hong Kong (20.2), Vietnam (19.7), and Japan (19.4), along with Nigeria (19.7), also show comparatively later averages.
In contrast, many Western and European countries report lower average ages. Spain (19.2), Italy (18.9), France (18.5), and the United Kingdom (18.3) fall in the mid-range, while the United States is estimated at around 18. Countries including Germany (17.6), Brazil (17.4), Ireland (17.3), and Austria (17.3) indicate slightly earlier trends.
Northern Europe records some of the lowest averages, with Sweden (16.2), Denmark (16.1), and Iceland at 15.6, placing it at the bottom of the list.
The survey also includes Indonesia (19.1), Poland (19), Taiwan (18.9), Russia (18.7), Mexico (18.7), South Africa (18.7), Switzerland (18.2), Canada (18.1), Netherlands (18.1), Greece (18.1), Australia (17.9), Turkey (17.8), New Zealand (17.8), Slovakia (17.8), Croatia (17.3), Czech Republic (17.2), Chile (17.2), Belgium (17.2), Portugal (16.9), Bulgaria (16.9), Israel (16.7), Finland (16.5), and Norway (16.5).
While the data continues to trend online, experts caution that such surveys can vary widely depending on cultural, social, and research methods, and should be interpreted carefully rather than taken as definitive benchmarks.
