The third day of the first test between India and New Zealand ended with the hosts having a 63 run lead. Batting second the Blackcaps scored 296 runs in their first innings and handed over the pitch to the home side for the second innings.
After failing to cross the Indian score of 345 runs, the visitors got an early break by removing Shubman Gill. Kyle Jaimeson had removed the Indian opener on his first ball of the day and gave his side a bit of momentum after a poor Day 3 with the bat.
Axar Patel has registered a five-wicket haul against New Zealand, while Ravichandran Ashwin picked three wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav got one wicket each on Day 3.
Interestingly, Axar Patel became the first player in over 100 years to pick up 5 five-wicket hauls in seven innings or less. The fastest player to 5 five-wicket haul was Rodney Hogg in 1978.
