The moment the Telangana government announced that there would be a ten-day lockdown in the state from tomorrow – from May 12th to May 22nd – chaos ensued all over the state, with people rushing to stock up on essentials, and especially liquor.
Last year, there was no liquor available throughout the country for 43 days, and even after the reopening of liquor shops in the state, the prices were hiked, which still didn’t stop all the liquor fanatics from storming liquor stores after they were reopened last year.
Now, with the government announcing a lockdown from tomorrow, all liquor fanatics stormed to their nearest liquor stores, wanting to stock up on alcohol for the next 10 days. Despite the government making it clear that everything is allowed to function between 6 AM to 10 AM, keeping in mind last year’s experiences, all liquor fanatics rushed to liquor stores.
All safety precautions like wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing went for a toss near these liquor stores, where people were falling on top of the other in the long queues, waiting for their turn to stock up. All districts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, witnessed a similar situation today.
