Strict action has been initiated in connection with the April 4 incident at Murgi Chowk in Hyderabad, where officials faced obstruction during an anti-encroachment drive. Senior police officer V. C. Sajjanar confirmed that legal proceedings have been launched and one accused has already been arrested.
According to officials, the incident took place during a GHMC drive to remove illegal encroachments from Lad Bazar to Puranapool. The operation was being carried out with police support from the Charminar Division when a group allegedly formed an unlawful assembly and obstructed the officials from performing their duties.
During the confrontation, a police constable on duty was reportedly assaulted while trying to protect civic staff. The situation escalated briefly, prompting authorities to take immediate legal action against those involved.
Police identified the accused as Sahil Akber (A-1), Ghouse (A-2, former corporator), and Rahmath Baig (A-3, MLC), along with their associates. Based on the complaint filed, a case has been registered at Hussainialam Police Station under Crime No. 102/2026, invoking relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Authorities confirmed that Sahil Akber has been arrested and produced before the court, where he has been remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to take further legal action against the remaining accused persons involved in the incident.
Speaking on the matter, V. C. Sajjanar made it clear that any attempt to obstruct public servants or resort to violence against officials carrying out lawful duties will not be tolerated. He emphasized that strict action will be taken as per law against anyone found violating the rules.
The incident has once again brought focus on the challenges faced during anti-encroachment drives in busy city areas, where resistance from local groups can sometimes lead to tense situations. However, authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that such drives continue without disruption, maintaining law and order while carrying out civic responsibilities.
