Actor Sudheer Babu made his own way in Tollywood, by featuring in a wide range of films. He is known for his agility and has now come up with a police drama, Hunt, directed by Mahesh Surapaneni. The film has been released today, and let us see how the film has turned out to be.
Arjun is a police officer who is investigating the murder case of his friend ACP Aryan Dev. During the investigation, Arjun meets with an accident and loses his memory. Following the accident, Arjun is asked to continue the investigation by the Commissioner of Police, Mohan Bhargav, without revealing his memory loss to anyone else. Who killed Aryan, will Arjun be successful in his investigation and find out who killed Aryan, and will Arjun regain his memory, form the rest of the story.
Sudheer Babu has been getting better as an actor and performer with every film, and it is the same with Hunt as well. His talent has been fully utilized by the director, and the actor has been perfectly cast as the police officer. He gives a commanding performance in the film, one that has never been seen in his career so far.
Bharat as Aryan Dev is also well cast, and his character is present throughout the film, either in person or in the form of driving the plot forward. He gives good gravitas to the movie and story, and the actor has done a decent job in the role that he’s been given.
Srikanth as Mohan Bhargav is good, and his scenes with Sudheer Babu have come out well. His character is also present throughout the film.
Mounika Reddy has been given a good role in the film. Chitra Shukla looks good but doesn’t have much to do in the film. The rest of the supporting cast are okay in their roles.
Director Mahesh Surapaneni came up with an interesting concept for sure, but the execution of this concept seemed to have gotten lost in translation. The first half of Hunt has been executed well, with an interesting and tense narration. The plot setup was good and the proceedings were carried out well, but the second half lost the momentum. Things get boring after a point, and the film seems to drag beyond what is necessary, with unnecessarily stretched out scenes. If the second half sustained the same momentum as the first, then the film would have been so much better. The director did come up with an interesting climax though, which is overshadowed by the lagging story that precedes it.
The background music by Ghibran is surely a huge asset to the film, as the scenes are elevated to the next level. The cinematography of the film is fine, and so are the production values.
The editing of the film could have been so much better, with certain scenes potentially being cut short to avoid the lag that was present in the second half.
- Lead actors performances
- Background score
- Boring second half
- Too much lag post interval
Verdict: Hunt has a good story plot, which is weakened by the second half and the uninteresting investigative parts that are included in it. Sudheer Babu gives a decent performance, but the film may not appeal much to the audiences due to the lack of an exciting feel.
