Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has experimented with his new cabinet, by giving prominence to BCs, SCs, STs, having given them more seats than the others. This is said to be a very strategic move, especially against the TDP, considering that the BC community has always stood by the TDP, due to which the TDP at least won the number of seats it did, in the 2019 elections.
The BC community hasn’t ever swayed the other way in over decades, but the 2021 local elections showed that the community was also moving towards the YSRCP. However, this has never been proof enough that the community would stick by the YSRCP and by Jagan, given that Jagan’s party hasn’t done anything solid for the community. As a result, Jagan is said to be keen on building his relationship with the BC community, which is said to be the main reason for him to award a lot of the cabinet seats to the community.
Given the decade long relationship the BC community has had with the TDP though, and with two years left for the 2024 elections, there’s no saying whether Jagan’s experiment would work, or if the BC community decides to stick it out with the TDP. With both the YSRCP and the TDP trying their very best to be in power in 2024, it is to be seen who will get the confidence of the BC community.
