Tihar Jail, India’s biggest and populated prison is soon going to be open to the tourists. Under the concept of “Feel like Jail”, the Tihar jail authorities are planning to start the prison tourism, through which the tourists can have the prison experience in the jail, for Rs. 2000 a day.
According to the concerned authorities, five to six cells, with an attached toilet, within the prison compound have been built, exclusively for the tourists. Criminals who are involved in dangerous crimes, will reside in Tihar jail. So to let the tourists feel secured from them, the high prison walls have been built to separate the cells of criminals from the visitors. The authorities have already conducted a safety audit too.

The tourists will be given the jail costumes and get locked up in the cells. You will be allowed to sleep on the floor and will be provided with the similar food that the criminals are offered. Adding to it, you will also be assigned to work in the jail premises, just like the original criminals.
In fact, the Telangana government has already started a similar program in 2016, centering Sangareddy Jail. It was open for the visitors for Rs. 500 per day. But the idea has not fetched any great impact. But as Tihar Jail being the country’s popular and biggest jail, hope the concept works and soon, the dangerous place, turns as a tourist hub.
