Despite the resounding success of the Baahubali series and the triumph of movies like the KGF series from Tollywood and Kantara films from Kannada Cinema in the Hindi market, Kollywood, representing Tamil Cinema, struggles to make a similar impact.
Apart from Rajinikanth and Shankar’s “2.0,” Tamil movies have failed to resonate with the Hindi audience, with only a few exceptions.
Even though Tamil Cinema holds a significant position in the regional film industry, it has yet to produce a 1000Cr blockbuster, unlike its counterparts in Tollywood and Sandalwood.
The industry has pinned hopes on films like Vikram, the Ponniyin Selvan series, and Rajinikanth’s recent movie “Jailer” to break into the elusive North market, but so far, success remains distant. Without establishing a foothold in the Hindi market, Tamil Cinema’s aspirations of joining the 1000Cr club face considerable challenges.
