The Chirala seashore has become a battleground all of a sudden. Over the past few days, despite the efforts of the authorities to reach a truce between the fishermen, clashes have escalated and no solution has been found yet.
The latest was yesterday when ‘Odarevu’ fishermen were attacked by Katari vari palem fishermen all of a sudden. They attacked each other with sticks. So, what is the real reason for the clash between the Odarevu fishermen and Katari Vari Palem fishermen? Why are they attacking each other?
For the past few days, a dispute has been going on between Oadarevu and Kathari Palem fishermen. There was controversy over the net used for fishing. Oadarevu fishermen use ballavala type of net while Kathari Palem fishermen argue that it should be ailavala net be used. They object that along with the fish, the eggs will come out and the fishery will be destroyed due to the slopes of ballavala.
However, Oadarevu fishermen claim that they will use the same net as there is government permission. With this comes the conflict between these two. On the 2nd of this month, the authorities arranged a meeting with the fishermen of the two villages in Ongole. Even at that meeting, there was no consensus among the fishermen. The same situation continued to prevail between the fishermen of the two villages on the sea shore.
Katari Vari Palem arrived at their palace on Friday as part of another attempt. However, the fishermen went to sea before the police to catch them as they were going hunting without attending the meeting organized by the Oadarevu fishermen. In the altercation between them, Katari palem people attacked the village of Odalarevu and left with injuring ten people.
However, the authorities played a spectator role in the riots that took place and several fishermen, including former sarpanch Ramana, were seriously injured in the attacks. The clash between the fishermen led to severe tensions. Tension prevails in the coastal area as fishermen of Odarevu and Kathari vari Palam continue to attack each other.
