Google has announced a massive $15 billion (₹1.33 lakh crore) investment to build a world-class AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This will be Google’s largest Artificial Intelligence hub in India and the second biggest in the world after the United States.
The historic agreement for the Visakhapatnam AI Hub was signed in New Delhi between Google and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, with support from the Government of India. The signing event, held at Taj Mansingh Hotel, was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Google Cloud Global CEO Thomas Kurian, along with other top executives.
Speaking on the occasion, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the 1-gigawatt-capacity AI Hub in Visakhapatnam will become part of Google’s global network of 12 AI centers. The project will later expand to multiple gigawatts and serve as a key digital and connectivity hub for Asia.
Kurian said a new undersea cable network will be laid at Visakhapatnam to connect India to the global AI and digital infrastructure network. The AI Hub will use advanced TPUs (Tensor Processing Units) to power high-efficiency AI computing. It will support data sovereignty, app development, AI training, and digital innovation for businesses, youth, and startups across India.
He added that the Visakhapatnam AI Hub will enable key Google services—such as Search, YouTube, Gmail, and Ads—to operate more efficiently from India. Google also plans to train Indian talent in AI and develop a skilled workforce to meet global and national regulatory needs.
“India has always been a key market for Google. We currently employ over 14,000 people across five Indian centers, offering cloud solutions from New Delhi and Mumbai. With the Visakhapatnam AI Hub, we are proud to support India’s journey towards a developed nation by 2047,” Kurian said.
