In order to regain back its image, video-sharing application TikTok has figured out how to improve its ratings on Google Play Store and is currently rated 4.4. The spike comes after a week ago’s transgress when the application’s rating went down to 1.2 after public backlash against sexist and savage content on the app.
It is majorly due to the controversy surrounding a video posted by a acclaimed TikTok user Faizal Siddiqui, who encouraged violence against women. Many hashtags including #IndiansAgainstTikTok inundated on internet. It was also later downgraded due to animal abuse videos.
Days after the ratings were stooped down to 1.2, the video-sharing app is by all accounts restoring its average rating on google play, which has been clearing out awful reviews from the app store. In the previous week, as per the guidelines, Google has excluded almost 80 lakh one star reviews against TikTok in the view of mass attack.
Without iterating the issue of TikTok, a Google spokesperson said that the company takes a right action to exclude inappropriate ratings and comments when there’s a deliberate spam abuse. “Play Store ratings enable users to provide helpful feedback about their experience with apps and content, for keeping up well informed.”
In accordance to the guidelines notified in the comment posting policy of Google Play, users are disallowed to manipulate the app ratings or do any mass attack. This is one of the reasons why Google favoured TikTok and discredited the reviews and ratings.
While Indian origin app with a catchy name ‘Mitron’ of late witnessed over 50 lakh downloads on Google Play. This is a strong anti-TikTok and anti-China sentiment displayed by users in the current scenario. Although few users nit picked about some bug issues, yet it bagged five stars as it’s an Indian app.
