Senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad delivered a shock to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday. When the leadership appointed him as the head of the party’s campaign committee in Jammu and Kashmir, he refused to accept the responsibility. He also resigned from the political affairs committee of the party.
Azad is prominent in the G23 group of senior leaders who have been voicing dissatisfaction with the Congress leadership for years. Recently, his term in Rajya Sabha ended, and it was not extended. It is being spread that he is unhappy with this.
Meanwhile, in the background of the Jammu and Kashmir elections, the party has entrusted him with new responsibilities. But it is reported that Azad considers those responsibilities as ‘demotion’. As he is already in the All India Political Affairs Committee, he is fuming with dissatisfaction that restricting it to Jammu and Kashmir would be a reduction in his status.
Sonia completely reorganized the PCC on Tuesday in the wake of the news that the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will be held soon. She appointed Campaign Committee, Political Affairs Committee, Coordination Committee, Manifesto Committee, Publicity, Publication Committee, Disciplinary Committee and Election Committee.
