Funky is a 2026 Telugu-language romantic comedy written and directed by Anudeep KV. The film features Vishwak Sen & Kayadu Lohar in the lead roles, while Naresh Vijay Krishna, Sampath Raj, Easwari Rao, Pammi Sai, Jai Krishna, Ravi Antony, Raghubabu, Rajitha, Manik Reddy, Muralidhar Goud, Sunita Manohar & others appear in important supporting roles. The music is composed by Bheems Ceciroleo while the film is produced by Naga Vamsi S & Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments & Fortune Four Cinemas banners.
Story:
Komal (Vishwak Sen) is directing a movie called Funky, but the film’s budget keeps increasing day by day. The overspending puts a lot of pressure on the producer (Naresh Vijaya Krishna), and his health begins to suffer because of the stress. As a result, his daughter Chitra (Kayadu Lohar) steps in to take responsibility for the film’s production and finances.
After taking charge, Chitra decides that replacing Komal as the director is the best way to finish the remaining shoot under control. This decision creates tension and conflict around the project. What follows is about whether Komal can prove himself and regain control of his film, and how the situation unfolds between him and Chitra.
What about on-screen performances?
Vishwak Sen does a decent job with his comedy. He tried to copy Anudeep KV’s style of fun and timing, which worked in places and didn’t work in a few places. But his witty one-liners make his overall performance a watchable affair. He is good in the emotional scene at the end.
Kayadu Lohar looks like a million bucks on screen in the role of the producer’s daughter. Her screen presence is attractive, and she adds the needed charm to her role with her cute expressions and neat performance.
Naresh Vijay Krishna does well as the producer, while Easwari Rao is okay as the hero’s mother.
Sampath Raj didn’t fit the role of the funny antagonist, and his scenes are very poorly written.
Producers Dil Raju & Naga Vamsi, Directors Harish Shankar, Anudeep KV & Kalyan Shankar are seen in cameos. Out of all, Dil Raju and Harish Shankar’s scenes are funny.
Pammi Sai, Jai Krishna, Ravi Antony, Raghubabu, Rajitha, Manik Reddy, Muralidhar Goud, Sunita Manohar & all others are fine in their limited supporting parts.
What about off-screen talents?
The story by Anudeep KV is too simple and outdated. In fact, the basic plotline does not support the overall film, as the weightage it carries is almost nil.
The screenplay by Anudeep KV & Mohan Sato is weak. The writing feels like a compilation of random scenes stitched together with punclines thrown in between whenever they wanted. Though this kind of fun worked with ‘Jathi Rathnalu’, the same approach may not sit well with today’s audience.
Director Anudeep KV does a passable job with his whole presentation. He majorly tried to evoke comedy through witty one-liners and, in the process, he paid very little attention to the writing and the structure. But he should be credited for writing some crazy meta-references that involve the movie field and the people working in the movies.
The dialogues are written in typical Anudeep KV style, and all his trademark one-liners work well in a few scenes. But there are a few places where the same one-liners do not work too.
The songs by Bheems Ceciroleo are fine. Rattatataav & Dheere Dheere songs are foot-tapping, but the rest of the songs are weak. His background score too is not up to the mark.
The cinematography by Suresh Sarangam is excellent. The colours are effective, and the whole film is shot on a grand scale.
The edit by Navin Nooli is below par. There are many places where there are abrupt cuts, and they are pretty evident in a few scenes.
The artwork by Jonny Shaik is good, while the costumes by Sandhya Sabbavarapu are okay in most scenes, but the clothes in the last mass song are very poorly designed.
The production values by Sithara Entertainments & Fortune Four Cinemas are good.

Verdict: Overall, Funky is a weakly made comedy that clearly suffers from poor writing and a lack of proper structure. The film hardly has a solid story and mostly relies on random jokes and punchlines, which alone are not enough to make it work in theatres. Although some jokes click at places, the messy flow of scenes and having no strong narrative base mean the movie fails to deliver a satisfying experience.
