In a tragic incident, four newborns died on Monday night in a fire that broke out at a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal.
There were 40 children on the ward at the time of the incident. Four of them lost their lives, and 36 escaped unharmed. Upon learning of the accident, firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the blaze with the help of 25 fire engines. Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang oversaw the relief efforts.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan responded to the accident. “I regret the incident at Kamala Nehru Hospital. I have ordered a high-level inquiry into this. The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of ACS Public Health and Medical Education Mohammad Suleiman.”
CM Chouhan said the fire was under control, but some children who had already been admitted to the hospital due to serious illness could not be rescued. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
