The much-awaited suspense on the new captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore has come to an end after the team announced Faf du Plessis as the new captain today.
The RCB announced the former South Africa captain as Virat Kohli’s successor at the RCB Unbox event in Bengaluru, ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League season.
Du Plessis is one of the most consistent players in the tournament with 2935 runs under his name by playing 100 matches in the IPL. He was a star performer for the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings for the past few seasons.
The former CSK player will become RCB’s 7th captain after Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Kevin Pietersen, Shane Watson, Virat Kohli and Daniel Vettori.
For the unversed, the former skipper of RCB, Virat Kohli had stepped down from the captaincy after IPL 2021, adding he chose to take a break from the responsibility. He led the team since 2013 with three play-off finishes and one final match, but sadly no trophy to show.
