Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has directed officials to ensure strict and systematic implementation of face recognition-based attendance in higher education institutions from the upcoming academic year.
During a review meeting held at his Undavalli residence, the minister assessed the preparedness of officials regarding the rollout of facial recognition systems across government, aided, and private unaided degree and engineering colleges. He sought detailed updates on the progress made so far in collecting and integrating data of students and staff for the new attendance mechanism.
Lokesh emphasized that adopting face recognition technology would improve transparency and accountability in educational institutions, while also supporting better teaching standards. He instructed officials to take all necessary measures to ensure a smooth and error-free implementation of the system.
Senior officials, including Education Department Secretary Kona Sasidhar and Higher Education Commissioner Narayan Bharat Gupta, attended the meeting and briefed the minister on ongoing preparations.
The initiative is expected to modernize attendance tracking and strengthen monitoring across colleges in the state.
