During this severe economic crisis across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the central government gave relief for the customers of all banks in the country by allowing them not to pay EMIs for 3 months.
There has been a lot of doubts about this decision took by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and all government banks have sent messages to their respective customers that they can opt for the mortgage and need not pay the EMIs for three months.
There has been a certain delay from the private banks about the moratorium that made every private bank customer nervous for some time. So, there has been tension among them whether they need to do anything to attain moratorium so that they cannot pay any EMI for the next three months.
Now, the private banks gave some clarity about the EMIs and said that they need to inform the bank about their choice on the moratorium, otherwise they will be charged this month as usual.
The HDFC bank said that the customers who doesn’t need moratorium need not contact the bank and the rest should inform their decision to the bank.
The Kotak Mahindra asked its customers to mail them about their decision and gave them a separate mail id for this purpose alone. On the other side, the ICICI bank gave its customers the facility to opt in and opt out of the moratorium.
