The layoff of employees continues at Twitter, led by new owner Elon Musk in San Francisco. It is known that almost half of the employees of the micro-blogging site were fired within a week of the Tesla CEO taking over the company.
Recently, it seems that cuts have been made in the outsourcing department as well. At least 4,400 contractual workers at the company have been fired by Twitter, according to international media reports.
It is said that the employees had given no prior notice, and they realised that they were fired after they lost access to the company’s email and internal communication systems.
“Contractors aren’t being notified at all, they’re just losing access to Slack and email. Managers figured it out when their workers just disappeared from the system,” tweeted Platformer’s Casey Newton.
In general, Twitter and other social media companies do not allow hate speech or other harmful content in their media. They rely heavily on contractors to find and track them. Outsourcing hires employees for content moderation on a contractual basis. Apart from this, there are contract employees in the marketing and engineering departments. But it seems that most of the people have been removed in content moderation.
