The second wave of Covid-19 is sparing no human and not even animals. Now, eight Asiatic lions at Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological Park have tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus. Perhaps this could be the first known case in India where a human affecting the animal and making them sick.
The lions are said to be recovering. The officials of the Zoo park conducted the RT-PCR tests of the lions after they showed symptoms of Coronavirus. The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology told the NZP on April 29 that the results of the tests of these lions had come out positive for Covid-19.
However, the CCMB will investigate the samples for genome sequencing to find out if the strain came from human beings or not.
As per reports, four males and four females each tested positive out of the 12 lions in the 40-acre safari area.
Currently, the Nehru Zoological Park, one of the biggest zoos in Asia, is locked for visitors as a precautionary measure. Recently 25 park staff tested positive for Covid-19.
