Young Telugu actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s DJ Tillu released today amidst good hype and anticipation. Let’s see what the film has to offer.
Story: Tillu (Siddhu) is a small time DJ who works on low-key DJ stints in his area. He is a famous figure here. One day he meets Neha Shetty and falls for her. The duo then enter a romantic relationship. After a series of interesting developments, DJ Tillu becomes the main suspect in a murder case and he is arrested for the same. What is the story behind the murder? Why is Tillu framed for it?
What about on screen performances?
Siddhu Jonnalagadda is a talented young actor and he showcases his prowess in a quirky and comical role. His Telangana slang, dialogue delivery, and body language all suit the theme of the film. He shoulders the film. Neha Shetty plays the female lead and she is decent. Narra Seenu, Prince, and Bramhaji play other comical roles and they do the jobs relatively well.
What about offscreen talents?
The director Vimal Krishna co-wrote the film with Siddhu Jonnalagadda and the duo does manage to pen very good premise for DJ Tillu character. The film has a breezy first half that has enough rib-tickling moments to keep the audience hooked. The majority of the comedy scenes in the first half do the trick. Viral handled the first half well. But the real problem is the latter half. There is no string conflict or gripping screenplay to duel the second half.
DJ Tillu is another classic example of films that have very good first halves and lackluster second halves. The wafer thin story is to be blamed for the same. A better conflict would have served the narrative well. Sri Charan Pakala’s music is good. The DJ Tillu and Pataudi Pilla song are good to hear. Thaman’s background score is adequate. The cinematography is impressive and so are the production values.
What’s Hot?
- Tillu characterisation and Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s performance
- BGM
- The comedy quotient in the first half
What’s Not?
- Forced comedy in second half
- Wafer thin story
- Lack of strong conflict
Verdict: DJ Tillu is a middling comedy drama that is powered by Siddhu’s fine performance. After a breezy first half which is loaded with good comedy scenes, the tempo drops in the latter half. The film might make for an okayish one time watch if you watch it with your expectations in check.
