Ever since Russia launched a full-scale invasion in Ukraine, several entertainment companies, including digital streaming giants like Amazon, Netflix and Warner Media, have stalled or entirely withdrawn business in Russia.
Now, one more entertainment company, The Walt Disney Company is working to halt all business in Vladimir Putin’s nation following its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
As per reports, Disney is now taking steps to shut down the rest of its activities in the country. The company has many linear channels and consumer product brands across Russia, as well as a cruise port in St. Petersburg.
“Given the unrelenting assault on Ukraine and the escalating humanitarian crisis, we are taking steps to pause all other businesses in Russia,” the Disney spokesperson said.
The representative further added that some of the business activities will pause promptly and others — such as linear channels and some content and product licensing — will take time given proper complexities. However, Disney made it clear that staff based in Russia will continue to be employed.
