Dhurandhar created history at the Bollywood box office when it released without much expectation and went on to collect over ₹1000 crores. Naturally, expectations for the sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, are sky-high. So, how is the film? How has Ranveer Singh handled the dual shades of Jaskirit Singh Rangi and Hamza Ali Mazari? How has director Aditya Dhar executed the sequel? Let’s find out.

Story:

Jaskirit Singh Rangi (Ranveer Singh) is a patriotic young man from Punjab who dreams of joining the army. However, after a violent clash in his hometown, he attacks an MLA’s house and kills 15 people. He then escapes to Pakistan and transforms into Hamza Ali Mazari. What led to the conflict between the MLA and Jaskirit? After the death of Rehman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna), what role does Hamza play in Pakistan? Do Major Iqbal (Arjun Rampal), his wife Elena (Sara Arjun), or politician Jamil (Rakesh Bedi) discover his true identity as an Indian agent? Watch the film to find out.

What about on-screen performances?

Ranveer Singh shines in a challenging dual-shaded role, showcasing impressive variation in both look and performance. This is arguably one of his finest performances.

R. Madhavan impresses with his powerful presence, and he is one of the major highlights of the film. The way he carries his character is surely an award-winning performance.

Sanjay Dutt is very good as the cop and continues from where he left off in the first part. His screen presence is one of the major highlights of the film.

Arjun Rampal is amazing as the ISI head and has a solid role in the second part. Rakesh Bedi performs superbly, and it is the best role of his career so far.

Sara Arjun is also good, but her role feels a bit limited. But her chemistry and scenes with Ranveer Singh are very good to watch on the big screen.

What about off-screen talents?

The music by Shashwat Sachdev is effective, with more focus on the background score than the songs. The way the music has been added to the narrative is good.

Despite a lengthy runtime of nearly four hours, the film keeps audiences engaged with its gripping narrative, though a few flaws are noticeable.

At almost four hours of runtime, the film feels dragged in many areas, and it will be hard for the Telugu audience to sit for that long in the theaters.

Delivering a sequel to a blockbuster is never easy, but Aditya Dhar manages to impress once again. Some viewers may feel the film leans toward a particular political viewpoint, but the strong writing overshadows these concerns.

The action sequences are elevated by powerful sound design, though some portions, especially key confrontations, could have been better executed visually. Cinematography and production design are top-notch.

In terms of storytelling, Dhurandhar posed questions, and The Revenge attempts to answer them. While the answers are detailed, they also increase the film’s length.

A tighter edit would have made it even more impactful, especially in the climax, which feels slightly stretched. However, the film consistently delivers surprises.

Verdict:

Overall, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is a typical spy action thriller with a stronger emotional core compared to the first part. The runtime is seriously an issue, but there is enough action to keep the viewers engaged. Fans of the original will definitely enjoy it and one needs to go with a lot of patience to enjoy the film.
