Demonte Colony 2 is a 2024 Tamil supernatural horror thriller film written and directed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu. The film has Arulnithi & Priya Bhavani Shankar playing the lead roles while Antti Jaaskelainen, Tsering Dorjee, Arun Pandian, Archana Ravichandran, Meenakshi Govindarajan, Sarjano Khalid & others are seen in important supporting roles. The music is composed by Sam CS while the film is produced by Bobby Balachandran, Vijayasubramanian & RC Rajkumar under BTG Universal, White Nights Entertainment & Gnanamuthu Pattarai banners.

Story:

‘Demonte Colony 2’ follows Debbie (Priya Bhavani Shankar), who, after losing her husband, tries to communicate with his spirit and ends up entering a portal filled with trapped souls. Inside, she mistakenly rescues Srinivasan (Arulnithi), who is in a comatose state, while his greedy twin brother Raghu (Arulnithi) schemes to inherit their father’s wealth. When Debbie, Raghu, and a Buddhist monk are pulled into the portal, they face the terrifying challenge of escaping from the deadly spirits that haunt Demonte Colony. The film revolves around their desperate struggle to survive and escape the demonic forces.

What about on-screen performances?

Priya Bhavani Shankar has a very meaty role that she carries very well. She gets the maximum screen time and does a superb job with her performance. She is good with her expressions and does well in the emotional scenes.

Arulnithi plays dual roles as the comatose Srinivasan and the grey-shaded Raghu and he does a decent job in both parts.

Arun Pandian doesn’t suit the role and mostly overacts in his scenes.

All the rest of the supporting actors are okay in their respective limited roles.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu, Venky Venugopal & Rajavel is interesting and has a fresh setup. The purpose is strong and the fantasy element along with the horror element is brought in neatly into the plot.

The screenplay is fair in a few parts but is overly done in a few others. The way the first part is connected to this sequel is done well and the knitting of the main characters is smartly done. But the way the second half is panned out is very boring with zero scary moments and is a bit overly presented with dragged-out scenes in a single location.

Director R. Ajay Gnanamuthu does a decent job with his craft. But his presentation has a bit of a shortcoming. The believability is lost by attempting to make things lavish, especially with the visuals and graphic work. The lack of tension in the drama doesn’t uplift the small ideas in the latter half.

The Telugu dialogues are fine and the Telugu dubbing could’ve been done better.

The songs by Sam. CS are forgettable and his background score is very loud in places which after a point starts to irritate us. In fact it never elevates the mood of the film properly.

The cinematography by Harish Kannan is the biggest plus of the film. His camerawork is constantly on the move giving the film the energy that the script lacks at certain places.

The edit by Ravi Pandian should have been a lot crisper as almost about 15-20 mins needed to be chopped off.

The production values are good.

What’s Hot?

* Priya Bhavani Shankar’s Performance
* Arulnithi’s Performance
* Connection From The First Part To This Part
* Good Twists & Turns
* Few Very Interesting Episodes
* Cinematography & Production Values

What’s Not?

* Boring Second Half
* Middling VFX & Graphics
* Too Loud Background Score
* Predictable Jump Scares
* Few Logicless Scenes

Verdict: Overall, Demonte Colony 2 is a thrilling and visually engaging sequel that pays respect to the original while introducing new elements. Although some aspects feel repetitive and the VFX looks middling in places, the film’s atmosphere, performances, and production values make it a notable watch.
