In a terrifying incident, the data of about 45 lakh passengers of Air India has been breached in a cyber-attack on the servers of the national carrier on Friday.
As per reports, the details of the passengers, which include passport and credit card information, were compromised in the attack.
“The breach involved some personal data registered between 26th August 2011 and 20th February 2021 with details that included name, date of birth, contact information, passport information, ticket information, frequent flyer data and also credit cards data,” Air India said in a statement.
The company has assured its passengers that there was no proof of any misuse of the stolen data. It also said they are in contact with regulatory agencies in India and outside of the attack. To make sure their confidential data is secured, the airlines urged passengers to change their passwords after the breach.
Air India had launched an inquiry into the incident and took measures including securing the compromised servers, involving external specialists in data security incidents, reaching credit card issuers and changing passwords of its regular flyer programme.
