The founders of a non government organization (NGO) have been nabbed by a team of Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone and Chandrayangutta Police in Hyderabad for forming a fake NGO and betraying people earlier in July.
Reportedly the two accused had a habit of making emotional videos on social media in the name of the victims and lure netizens in the name of crowd funding for emergency purpose. One of the accused identified as Salman Khan formed an NGO along with his friends with the name ‘Hyderabad Youth Courage’ (HYC) in which he is said to be the president, and set up an office at Humayun Nagar.
After almost 25 days, one more case was registered by the Golconda police against the crowd funding scam by HYC for cheating a family after collecting public donations on pretext of helping them.
In her complaint registered to the police, a woman named Farheen Sultana, wife of Akbar Hussain, claimed she had sought favour of Hyderabad Youth Courage in arranging money for treatment of her husband, who had a need of hospitalisation since the day when accident occurred in February.
“In May, the NGO ammased donations for Akbar Hussain’s treatment. On different occasions , the gang withdrew Rs.3 lakh and Rs. 6.30 lakh from the account without intimating her. But, they handed over Rs. 5 lakh to them and swindled the remaining amount,” said J Mahender Reddy, Sub-Inspector, Golconda.
