Film.Ca Cinemas in Oakville faced a shocking incident in the early hours of September 25 when an attempted arson took place at the theatre. Thankfully, no one was present at the time of the attack, and the cinema has confirmed that it remains fully open and safe for all guests.
Despite the cowardly act, Film.Ca has assured moviegoers that all shows are running as scheduled, including screenings of the Telugu blockbuster They Call Him OG. The management has stressed that such attempts will not affect their commitment to the community or their operations.
This is not the first time the theatre has experienced vandalism and threats linked to the screening of Indian films. While these repeated acts are troubling, Film.Ca’s team has made it clear that they will not back down.
Jeff Knoll, CEO of Film.Ca Cinemas, released a strong statement: “We will not be intimidated by cowardly acts of violence. Film.Ca is a place for families, friends, and our community to come together — and that will never change.”
The theatre has already increased security measures to ensure complete safety for its guests. In addition, Film.Ca is fully cooperating with the Halton Regional Police, who are investigating the attack.
Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information. Those who know details can contact Halton Police at 905-845-4747 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
The Oakville community has shown strong support for the theatre, with many praising Film.Ca’s resilience and courage. The cinema thanked its patrons in an official message: “Thank you, Oakville, for standing with us. We’re here, we’re strong, and we’re open.”
With the theatre back in action, guests can continue enjoying a wide variety of films in a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly environment.
