Ahead of Telangana Legislative Council elections, the election commision (EC) has stated that the people suspected of having COVID-19, elderly over 80 years of age and differently-abled persons across the state will be granted special voting rights.
Centre has given special privilege to provide Ambulance service to covid patients to cast their vote. A detailed plan has been formulated to ensure that maximum eligible voters can provide vote through the postal ballot.
Recording a one of a kind scenario for the first time, Covid-19 positive people casted their votes covered in personal protective equipment (PPE) packs in a bypoll to the Telangana Legislative Council from Nizamabad on Friday.
Three candidates, including Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and former MP K Kavitha, are contesting for the seat in the MLC elections of Nizamabad Local body constituency.
Representatives of local bodies have been the voters in the bypoll. Reportedly, the total sum of voters in the election were found to be 824, but one individual passed away. It is learnt that out of the remaining 823 voters, 821 people casted their vote, while two others used postal ballots. These voters were facilitated their franchise between 4 p.m to 5 p.m as per the norms. Counting will happen on October 12.
