It is well known that Uk has reported a new second variant of the covid-19 recently is already giving scares to the public across the world. Now the recent news by UK’s Health Secretary Matt Hancock is that the UK detected new virus strain in people who had a history of travel from South Africa
South Africa’s health department spokesmen announced last week that a new genetic mutation of the virus had been reported, which is believed to be responsible for the rise in infections there.
“Thanks to the impressive genomic capability of the South Africans, we’ve detected two cases of another new variant of coronavirus here in the UK,” Hancock briefed in a press meet.
It is learnt that both the cases of highly risky new variant has been contracted in those who travelled from South Africa in the past few weeks. With that the Britain government immediately placed travel restrictions to and from South Africa.
In the conference, Matt Hancock said that the new strain is found to be more transmissible. He said close contacts of those detected with the new variant were being figured out and quarantined. The health minister mandated that all UK citizens who had been in South Africa in the last fortnight also must be in quarantine.
