The newly discovered Omicron variant of Covid-19 is spreading fast across the world. India has now recorded two fresh cases of this fatal variant as per the health ministry. With this, India’s total cases of Omicron touched 25.
Two more people have tested positive for the Omicron variant in Gujarat after one South Africa returnee tested positive with the new variant on December 4.
As per reports, a person who travelled from Zimbabwe to Gujarat’s Jamnagar on December 4 tested positive for the new variant. The recent cases have been detected in his contacts.
Meanwhile, the active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.27%; the lowest since March 2020. India’s active caseload currently stands at 94,943 after the country reported 8,503 new Covid-19 cases and 624 deaths in the last 24 hours.
On the other side, 131.18 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
