Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi today said the government must plan proper steps in lifting the nationwide lockdown because lockdown can only halt the spread of covid-19, not end it.
“Lockdown is not a solution, neither a treatment. Therefore, we must develop a strategy to exit from the lockdown phase. PM’s should play a pivotal role to empower the states,” Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a press conference in New Delhi.
Expounding on this, he said a lockdown can’t overcome the infection, it can just stop it for some time. “The greatest weapon to battle it is to focus on developing the testing. It resembles a delay button, it’s not a solution. When we come out, the infection will spread again,” he said, adding that a lockdown permits time to increase readiness.
Rahul Gandhi said the administration needs to immediately expand testing for Covid-19 in the nation. “India’s testing rate is extremely low at 199 for each million up until this point. We have to amp up testing,” he said.
Depicting the predominant circumstance as a “crisis”, Rahul Gandhi said it is significant that the battle against Covid-19 is taken to the district level. “To battle Covid-19, our primary power must be at state and region level,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi likewise hailed Kerala’s accomplishment in controlling Covid-19 as a triumph and said it is a model. “The battle need to be bottom up and not top down. PM’s job ought to be to empower the states.”
