The newly discovered Omicron variant has been spreading fast in India. The caseload, due to the deadly variant, has risen to 21 with 17 fresh cases reported from Delhi, Maharashtra and Rajasthan on Sunday.
As per reports, Delhi and Rajasthan reported their first cases of the variant, and Maharashtra added seven more cases to the present list. So far, Omicron variant cases have been reported in Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi and Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, India reported 8,306 new cases and 8,834 recoveries in the last 24 hours, according to data by the Union ministry of health and family welfare. The active caseload now stands at 98,416, the lowest in 552 days.
The Omicron variant is detected in over 30 other countries, and it has prompted fears that it could significantly undermine the effectiveness of vaccines against Coronavirus.
