Amid rapidly increasing Covid-19 cases in the country, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has banned all victory processions on or after the results of the assembly elections in five states that will be announced on May 2.
We know the Madras High Court on Monday slammed the Election Commission over the second wave of the pandemic in the country. The HC had singularly made the election body responsible for the spread and even said its officials may be charged with murder.
Now, in a detailed order, Election Commission has said not more than two people may accompany the winning candidate to take their victory certificate for the May 2 election result.
For the unversed, the Legislative Assembly polls were scheduled in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry, beginning March 27 and ending April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
