The Covid-19 pandemic has been plaguing the world for over a year now. The worldwide deaths related to the virus have surpassed 5 million on Friday.
In the first year of virus exposure, the virus killed 2.5 million people, and another 2.5 million died in just 236 days. Experts say the delta variant, which is prevalent in many countries, is the main reason for this.
More than half of the world’s Covid deaths are reported in just five countries. The United States has the highest number of deaths, followed by Russia, Brazil, Mexico, and India. In the US, however, this number has crossed the 7 lakh mark. There is an average of 1900 people dying with Covid per day.
More than half of the world has yet to receive at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to Our World in Data.
