Of late the Centre has written to the five states reporting a surge in cases to initiate a multi-pronged strategy to uproot the spread of Covid-19. Other states- Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh were also alerted. Sources reported Jammu & Kashmir has also became a cause of concern. Centre has increased the proportion of RT-PCR tests and compelled the states to do the same.
Among all the states Maharashtra was worst effected in the recent times. In this regard, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray conducted a webcast on Sunday urging citizens to be vigilant with safety measures or be ready for another lockdown starting March 1.
While referring to the surge in cases in the state on social media, including Mumbai and Pune, Thackeray said my question is to you- “Should we have another lockdown?”. He hinted, “The second wave has not yet come but it is knocking on our door. We will get to know in the next two weeks whether the second wave has come.”
Specific city areas in Amravati, Akola and Buldana districts in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra declared a lockdown for a week beginning from 23rd morning. The Pune district administration ordained new curbs, including on night-time movement, massive gatherings and restaurants and bars. Schools and colleges will remain closed till February 28.
