The Chennai Sessions Court has refused to grant bail to model and film actress Meera Mithun for her derogatory comments on scheduled caste people in one of her videos. The court dismissed the actress’ bail petitions as well as the plea filed by her friend Abhishek.
In a recent interview with YouTube, Meera Mithun called for the expulsion of Dalits from the film industry. She also commented that the value of the film industry is declining due to the films being made by Dalit directors. Various organizations blamed the actress for her comment, and have lodged police complaints against her.
During the investigation, the actress was summoned to appear at the Central Crime Branch office on August 11. But she didn’t appear for investigation and absconded with her friend Sam Abhishek. She fled to Kerala after the Central Crime Branch police registered a case against her under various sections. However, on learning of her whereabouts, the Special Cyber Crime Police went to Kerala and arrested her.
Meera Mithun and her friend, who are lodged in Puzhal jail, have filed a petition seeking bail. But the judge has refused the petition.
