A few days after Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old man from Bengaluru, died by suicide, his wife Nikita Singhania, along with her mother Nisha and brother Anurag, were arrested by the police. This happened on Sunday, with Nikita being caught in Gurugram, Haryana, while her mother and brother were arrested in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. They are facing charges for allegedly leading to cause Atul’s suicide.
The police started investigating after Atul’s brother, Bikas Kumar, filed a complaint. He accused Nikita and her family of harassing Atul and demanding large amounts of money—₹3 crore to drop legal cases against him and ₹30 lakh for visitation rights to see their son. The police had to ask for help from officers in Uttar Pradesh to find the suspects, who had left their home in Jaunpur.
Atul was found dead in his apartment on December 9. Before his death, he wrote a 24-page note about his troubles and posted an 81-minute video where he talked about his situation. He claimed that a family court judge in Uttar Pradesh was corrupt and favored his in-laws. Atul had been dealing with several legal issues since he married Nikita in 2019, which later led to their separation. He himself faced serious accusations, including murder and dowry harassment.
This case has drawn a lot of public attention and concern regarding the actions of Nikita and her family.
