Lady Superstar Nayantara’s latest film, Connect, directed by Aswin Sarvanan, has been released. The film features Satyaraj in an important role, and is a horror film. There have been decent expectations on the film, and let’s see how it has turned out to be upon release.

Story:

The story of Connect revolves around Joseph and Susan, a married couple, and their daughter, Anna. Joseph and Susan are a happy couple, but are unfortunately separated after Joseph passes away due to the coronavirus pandemic. Being very much attached to her father, Anna tries to contact Joseph’s spirit somehow but ends up in danger as a result. What happens there on and how Susan manages to save Anna forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances:

Undoubtedly, Connect is Nayantara’s film all the way. She perfectly embodies a mother, and carries her role very gracefully. She lives the character of Susan in every scene, and makes you feel along with her, whenever she is involved in any scene with her daughter.

Sathyaraj, who is seen as Nayantara’s father in the film, also does a good job. The way his character stands by his daughter and granddaughter is noteworthy, and Sathyaraj’s screen presence itself is amazing.

Vinay Raj doesn’t have a huge role in the film, but the impact that he made in the short time that he was on the screen is very huge, and carries through the rest of the film.

Anupam Kher, who is seen in a crucial role, also does a pretty good job at what he is given. Haniya Nafis, who plays Nayantara’s daughter in the film, has done a very good job and most certainly contributed very well to the shock and horror factor of the movie.

Off-Screen Talents:

Director Aswin Saravanan’s story has been tried and tested hundreds of times in horror films throughout the world so far. However, the director has written a very gripping screenplay, which greatly contributes towards making the film an enjoyable experience. The horror elements of the film have been designed well, but the film fails to connect well with the audience because of its setup, and is predictable, which are the major drawbacks for the film.

The cinematography and the background music of the film have contributed greatly to the film, elevating the scenes very well. The editing could have been a lot better. The production design is quite good.

Plus Points:

  • Nayantara’s performance
  • Haniya Nafis’s performance

Minus Points:

  • Predictable storyline

Verdict: Connect serves its purpose, in the sense that it provides you entertainment and makes you forget your surroundings as long as you’re watching it. If you’re a horror movie fan, then Connect can be watched once in the film.
