On the second day of his visit to Singapore, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his team visited the Singapore Sports School. After touring the Bidadari Housing Project, the delegation explored the sports school to understand how it operates and supports young athletes.
CM Chandrababu was accompanied by Olympic champion Pullela Gopichand, ministers, and senior officials from Andhra Pradesh. During the visit, he interacted with the principal of the sports school, who explained the school’s mission and functioning.
The principal informed the Chief Minister that the school is not meant for general tourism or entertainment but is designed to train students to become world-class athletes. He also mentioned that Singapore is aiming to become a global hub for sports excellence.
The school follows high standards and a strong performance-based system. Students who show interest in sports are selected after they turn 12 years old and are trained with proper guidance and support.
The principal explained that national sports associations and academies also work with the school to offer the best training. The school receives funding from both the sports and education departments of the Singapore government.
The team also learned that a similar model is being followed in Qatar, where such sports schools are using advanced methods to train athletes at the international level.
