It looks as though Telangana Chief Minister KCR’s new weapon is cloudburst and the height of the Polavaram project when it comes to talking points in public. He has made a blasphemous statement in public recently, where he said that the cloudbursts occurring throughout India are the result of a huge foreign conspiracy, where several countries have come together to cause cloudbursts in India. Now, KCR is no conspiracy theorist or scientist, but the Chief Minister of a state, meaning that one would expect him to make sensible and only true statements when on a public stage, and whatever statements he makes are usually considered to be true.
With such a clause, a layman would expect that KCR was right and knew what he was talking about when he was talking about cloudbursts. However, no one came in support of the CM’s statements after he made them, with the exception of a few TRS members, who seemed to back his statements more out of courtesy than anything else. At a time when climate change is causing several problems all over the world, in China, Europe, Dubai and the USA, where people are dying because of storms, floods, hail storms, storms and even hurricanes and wildfires, the prospective of a foreign conspiracy seems highly unlikely. Not only did KCR make a fool of himself with the statement, but he was being very aloof too.
On the other hand, the CM has been talking a lot about the height of Polavaram height and how it’s been causing severe floods in the areas that it is surrounded by. The fact is that Bhadrachalam and the places around it, which are near Polavaram, were subjected to constant floods even before the construction of Polavaram, which moots the chance of Polavaram or the project’s height having to anything with it. However, KCR’s stressing on the Polavaram project is only making everyone wonder if the main reason for it is because Kaleshwaram was denied the status of a national project while Polavaram has been announced as a national project.
Another factor could also be that there have been protests since the division of the state for merging the areas of Bhadrachalam and those around it in Telangana, which hasn’t happened and is highly unlikely to happen, as they have always been a part of Andhra Pradesh. All in all, whether there seems to be a valid point or not, it does look like KCR is trying to weaponize Cloudbursts and the height of the Polavaram project while addressing the public.
