China is witnessing a sudden surge of the Delta variant of the Covid-19 cases. Concerns have been raised that it has spread to 27 cities across 18 provinces across China. The number of medium and high-risk areas has risen to 95, according to the official media ‘Global Times’. Of these, four areas, including Dehong, Nung and Yong, are under serious threat.
China’s Center for Disease Control (CDC) has identified the ‘delta’ variant as the cause of three fresh cases in the capital, Beijing, on Sunday. The Beijing Municipal Government has announced that it is suspending all vehicular traffic to the capital from the provinces where Covid is spread.
According to the Global Times, many of the new cases outside the country are related to a show performed at a grand theatre in Zhangjiajie. Nearly 2,000 people attended the show. All their close friends and family members will be identified and necessary steps will be taken. Authorities in several cities, including Suning and Zhangjiajie, have initiated lockdowns.
Though the fresh cases are still in the few hundreds, concerns have risen rose over the vast spread of the infection in different provinces.
