Telugu Desam Party Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu was the one who picked Amaravati to be the capital of Andhra Pradesh. He was the one who took thousands of acres from thousands of farmers, promising to them that he would construct a formidable capital in Amaravati.
As soon as Chandrababu’s regime was over, the YSRCP won with a staggering majority last year, with Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy at its center. He took oath as the CM, and promised to the farmers of Amaravati that he would build a competent capital there.
However, a few months down the line as the CM, Jagan proposed the 3 Capital bill, raking a lot of controversy in Andhra Pradesh, and leading to several riots. This not only angered the farmers of Amaravati, but also enraged the people of Andhra Pradesh.
Chandrababu had promised to the farmers of Amaravati that he would fight for them and make sure that Amaravati is restored as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh. Two days ago, Chandrababu had also challenged the government to resign from its posts and contest in re-elections, so that they can see for themselves what the people want – 3 capitals or 1 capital.
While Chandrababu’s intentions behind throwing this challenge are unclear to a certain extent, it is very clear that the YSRCP has taken it with a grain of salt. They have completely ignored him, and with Babu’s deadline having ended, he has now asked the people to get onto the roads, having completely given up on the dream.
This is downright pathetic of Chandrababu to give up midway like this, after having promised to the people that he will take care of Amaravati. This shows the incompetence of this erstwhile leader who is supposed to be leading a movement against the government during issues like these.
