Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reacted strongly to the announcement of Sudarshan Reddy as a Vice Presidential candidate. He said that announcing a Telugu person as the candidate, even after knowing that defeat was certain, was not a fair decision.
Naidu reminded that his party, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), was part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) before the elections. Because of this, he explained that it was unfair to expect support from TDP for any other candidate. He clearly stated that political decisions should be taken with proper planning and respect for the people, not just for political symbolism.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the Vice President’s post is very important for the country and it should not be used for experiments. He said that the choice of Sudarshan Reddy looked like a move only to project a Telugu face, without seriously considering the chances of winning.
Naidu questioned why a Telugu person was brought into the contest when the result was already predictable. He said such a step only creates disappointment among Telugu people instead of giving them pride. According to him, symbolic gestures without real strength will not bring respect to the community.
Chandrababu Naidu repeated that the TDP has always supported alliances based on principles and fairness. But, in this case, his party cannot be expected to go against its stand just to back a candidate who was announced without proper consultation.
With this statement, Naidu made it clear that TDP’s stand is firm and the party will continue to support decisions that are practical and beneficial for both Andhra Pradesh and the nation.
