India is now battling to provide more number of vaccines owing to the fact that the awareness to take the inoculation has grown massively among citizens. With that the third phase of vaccine drive that began a couple of days ago, had witnessed unexpected greater demand for vaccine. It crossed the estimated count of 1 crore health care workers.
Senior IAS officer and Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, in a letter to state governments, has notified an unusual trend in which the total count of healthcare workers in the nation has shoot up by 24 per cent in the last few weeks. This was unexpected as the health ministry has records of eligible 1 crore health workers and anything above that was found to be a forgery.
The Centre on Saturday has issued an order to all states and Union territories to disallow any fresh registrations of healthcare workers (HCWs) and frontline workers (FLWs) with immediate effect.
This decision was made following the recommendation by the National Expert Group for Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 (NEGVAC) based on information from sources that some ineligible beneficiaries were getting their names enlisted for vaccination against COVID-19, under this category, by flouting.
