Ever since the current Andhra Pradesh government, headed by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, announced the 3 capital plan that it has for the state of AP, everything went haywire, and the uncertainty over the capital of AP continues to persist to date. Several protests have been carried out by the farmers of Amaravati after the announcement of the 3 capitals, and cases have been filed in the AP High Court, which are still pending a hearing.
Now, Union minister of state for home Nityanand Rai told Rajya Sabha member GVL Narasimha Rao, that Amaravati is the capital of AP for now, as per the information available with the Central government. The Centre said that Amaravati will continue to be the capital of AP, until the state government takes a firm decision on the same, while once again reiterating the fact that the state government possesses the sole power to select the capital of the state.
On the other hand, the AP HC started hearing the cases filed in the capital issue once again from Wednesday. Last week, the HC heard of the farmers of Amaravati who wanted the case to be continued as the state government was firm on reintroducing the three capitals’ bill in the state assembly.
