The centre has been working on revising the country’s old IT Act for some time now and finally announced a new rule. The union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Prakash Javadekar on Thursday released the guidelines of new rules to regulate digital content on social media.
The all-new Information Technology Rules, 2021, will bring social media and the OTT platforms under a regulatory framework.
The centre has introduced a three-tier regulatory framework for addressing grievances. The three-tier structure is under (Level I) Self-regulation by the applicable entity, (Level II) Self-regulation by the self-regulating bodies of the applicable entities, and (Level III) Oversight mechanism by the Central Government.
