There has been a debate in the media on “Can Vizag be the capital city of AP?” Few mentioned that centre can stop YSRC from moving the capital region from Amaravathi and few others mentioned that Vizag can’t be the capital as it would create security implications due to the presence of the Naval base.
Speaking on this topic, Professor Nageshwar stated that the centre will be having no power in stopping the AP to set up the capital city in Vizag region. Nageshwar further clarified that centre can ask the state government to compensate the farmers and the corporate who lost their money due to the shift in capital city.
On the other hand, Nageshwar showed the example of Mumbai to eliminate the assumption of Vizag not fitting the capital city due to Naval base presence. Several political parties were opposing the idea of YSRC to have multiple capital cities for AP and the shift of capital city as well. But YSRC is keen on changing the capital city.
