The Union govt has made it clear to the Supreme court that Rs 4 lakh compensation cannot be given to the deceased families of the coronavirus. The affidavit submitted to the Supreme court stated that if they should be given compensation, then the complete funds of the disaster relief funds will be exhausted. The central govt has expressed its view that if the funds under the SDRF are allocated to the corona deceased families, then there will be no funds left to use for emergency medical services or during disasters such as cyclones or floods.
Nearly 4 lakh people died due to covid across the country. Hence, the union govt has made it clear that it is not possible to compensate the families of the covid deceased. The affidavit submitted to the Supreme court states that disaster relief only applies to natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes etc.
