Story
Buddy follows the story of Aditya Ram (Allu Sirish), a pilot, and Pallavi (Gayatri Bharadwaj), an Air Traffic Controller, whose romance takes an unexpected supernatural twist when Pallavi’s soul becomes trapped in a teddy bear. The narrative unfolds with Aditya and Pallavi, in teddy bear form, teaming up to find her body, leading to a series of thrilling and action-packed events. The story delves into the motives of a doctor(Ajmal Ameer) and how he runs an organ trafficking mafia. How the hero and teddy bear save the heroine from all this is the basic crux.
What about on-screen performances?
Allu Sirish is a sincere actor and does well in all his films. But sadly, he is choosing some wrong subjects in his career. The same happens with Buddy as well. He is good in his role, but the narration makes him look silly in many scenes.
Gayatri Bharadwaj plays the female lead, and she is impressive. She has a meaty role and gets a chance to showcase her emotions and also does well in them. Prisha Singh is not at all good as the second heroine.
Ali is seen after a long gap, Ali is seen in a meaty role but sadly, his comedy is stale in the film. Only a few jokes click. Ajmal Amir in the role of a doctor overacts for no reason. He is irritating in the film. Mukesh Rishi’s character is also not worth mentioning here.
What about off-screen performances?
Buddy is the official remake of the Tamil hit Teddy. It has been remade in Telugu with a lot of changes. The film’s visuals are top-notch, with animation and special effects that seamlessly blend with live-action sequences, creating a believable and engaging world.
However, the film struggles with a predictable plot, lack of suspense, and poor execution. Many scenes lack logic, and the supporting characters are underutilized. Technically, the direction, production values, and editing are mediocre.
While the cinematography is noteworthy, capturing the vibrant energy of the story, the music is average. Overall, Buddy offers a familiar storyline with a few entertaining moments but lacks a compelling narrative and memorable scenes.
The film might appeal to kids, but others can find better entertainment options elsewhere. Buddy is aimed at family audiences and kids, the film needed better humor and a more engaging narrative.
Although the teddy bear uses Prabhas’s Kalki dialogue to appear relevant, most of its antics fail to generate laughs. Additionally, the film’s plot unfolds in a predictable manner hereby making it a boring affair.
What’s Hot?
- Teddy Bear scenes with Sirish
- A few comedy scenes
What’s Not?
- Silly narration
- Predictable scenes
- Silly action sequences
- Boring ending
Verdict: Overall, Buddy is a disappointing remake of Teddy. Allu Sirish does his part well but the narration by Sam Anton lacks basic punch as the comedy and thrills fail to impress the cafegoers.
